Sarah Aimaro, B.S. Ed
Ms. Aimaro attended Illinois State
University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Special
Education in 1981.
After graduating, she
accepted a position in Joliet as a special education
resource teacher.
In that role she worked with
students who had learning disabilities and behavior
disorders.
In 1984 Ms. Aimaro worked as
a teacher for the Lockport Area Special Education
Cooperative.
In 1985, Ms. Aimaro became resource
teacher for the Manhattan School District, where she worked
for fourteen years, with students who had learning
disabilities, behavior disorders, high functioning autism,
and other health impairments.
At that time she took graduate
classes in math education and school counseling at Illinois
State University.
In 1998, Ms. Aimaro became a certified
screener for the Irlen Institute of Perceptual Development,
and in 2002 she completed the Illinois Autism and Pervasive
Developmental Disorders Training Project.
In 2007 Ms. Aimaro designed and
implemented a tutoring program in New Lenox, for students
adopted from an orphanage in Russia.
Ms. Aimaro has a unique perspective on
special education from the point of view of a parent.
She and her husband raised a son
with a disability who now is a successful university
student.
Ms.
Aimaro is a member of the National Tutoring Association.
