Johnny Williamson, MD is a board-certified Psychiatrist and specialist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He has a private practice in Chicago, Illinois, but he is also the director of the Links to Learning Program, a school based intervention for children with school failure and behavioral problems, and the Disruptive Behavior Disorders Clinic, a clinic for children with school failure, violence and other problems stemming from disruptive behavior disorders, both at the Community Mental Health Council, Inc. in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Williamson is a Community Psychiatrist with extensive experience treating children, adolescents and adults in outpatient and emergency settings. His private practice is largely devoted to treating patients with psychiatric and emotional disorders using medication and psychotherapy.
Dr. Williamson has presented nationally and has published articles on the juvenile justice system, violence in psychiatric patients, prescribing psychotropic medications to children, suicide prevention and the need for psychiatric infrastructure to reduce mental illness.
Regarding his expertise and experience treating the acutely mentally ill in the psychiatric emergency room, Dr. Williamson has appeared on Nightline. He has lectured at and presented talks to the American Psychiatric Association, 52nd Institute of Psychiatric Services, National Black Child Development Institute, National Medical Association and the Texas Youth Commission. He has also been a guest on WVON addressing the use of psychotropic medications in children and adolescents.
